The GRARANT project (EU-funded project with the University of Bremen) is an example of a very successful solution:

The goal

The aim of the GRARANT project was to develop a novel, robust, camera-based recognition system for granule analysis and integration into a production process. Using images from the process environment, the recognition system independently records the volume data required for 3D size and shape recognition.

The project description

The volume data obtained from 3D size detection is used to derive basic key figures that characterise the structure of the material. Based on these characteristics, the behaviour of different grain sizes and grain size combinations in the processing process is analysed and the optimum processing parameters are determined. The process parameters are then optimised to achieve the desired material properties.

The result

This innovative quality monitoring system, which will consist of a combined IT platform, computer and camera technology, is designed to be user-friendly and use cost-effective components.
